Depok City is Depok, starting from a sub-district located in the Kewedanaan (Assistant Regent) area of ​​Parung, Bogor Regency, then in 1976 housing began to be built both by Perum Perumnas and developers, which was followed by the construction of the University of Indonesia (UI) campus, as well as increased trade. and services that are rapidly increasing so that the speed of service is needed. In 1981 the Government established the Administrative City of Depok based on Government Regulation Number 43 of 1981 which was inaugurated on March 18, 1982 by the Minister of Home Affairs (H. Amir Machmud) consisting of 3 (three) Districts and 17 (seventeen) Villages, namely:
Pancoran Mas sub-district, consisting of 6 (six) villages, namely Depok Village, Depok Jaya Village, Pancoram Mas Village, Mampang Village, Rangapan Jaya Village, Rangapan Jaya Baru Village. Beji District, consists of 5 (five) villages, namely: Beji Village, Kemiri Muka Village, Pondok Cina Village, Tanah Baru Village, Kukusan Village.
Sukmajaya District, consists of 6 (six) villages, namely: Mekarjaya Village, Sukma Jaya Village, Sukamaju Village, Cisalak Village, Kalibaru Village, and Kalimulya Village.
 
Over a period of 17 years, the Administrative City of Depok has developed rapidly both in the fields of Government, Development and Society. In particular, in the field of Government, all villages changed to Kelurahan and there was an expansion of Kelurahan, so that in the end Depok consisted of 3 (Kecamatan) and 23 (twenty-three) Kelurahan, namely:

§ Pancoran Mas Subdistrict, consists of 6 (six) Kelurahan, namely: Depok Village, Depok Jaya Village, Pancoran Mas Village, Rangapan Jaya Village, Rangapan Jaya Baru Village.
§ Beji Subdistrict consists of (six) Kelurahan, namely: Beji Village, East Beji Village, Pondok Cina Village, Kemirimuka Village, Kukusan Village, Tanah Baru Village.
§ Sukmajaya Subdistrict, consists of 11 (eleven) Kelurahan, namely: Sukmajaya Village, Suka Maju Village,. Mekarjaya Village, Abadi Jaya Village, Baktijaya Village, Cisalak Village, Kalibaru Village, Kalimulya Village, Kali Jaya Village, Cilodong Village, Jati Mulya Village, Tirta Jaya Village.
 
In its development, the population of Depok City in 2019 was 2,406. 826 people, and the population density of Depok City per KM2 is 12,017. For this reason, acceleration is needed in the welfare of the people of Depok City. One of the programs echoed by the Depok City Government is the 'Depok Smart City' Program. With the Smart City concept, it is easier for the government to monitor the development of city infrastructure, real-time events and other public service facilities.
The Smart City concept is a city (or an area) that is developed and managed by implementing sustainable innovations that pay attention to the balance of economic, social and environmental.
In developing the city towards a 'Smart City', there are six pillars to build a smart city, namely smart governance, smart society, smart living, smart economy, smart environment, and smart branding. All six pillars are explained in more detail through the Cohen diagram (Guidelines for Creating a Smart City According to the Cohen Diagram, 2017), namely:
1. Smart economy includes international events, development and research, as well as startup development.
2. Smart governance is related to the openness and ease of access to government data by the public, the availability of internet facilities (wi-fi), and human resources in urban areas.
3. Smart people/society, which are related to this pillar, namely education, community integration.
4. Smart living, related to a healthy environment, community security, and guaranteed happiness, and    the ratio of income inequality.
5. Smart mobility, related to transportation used by the community, should use environmentally friendly energy, use public transportation, and timeliness of transportation access.
6. Smart environment, this pillar is related to green open space per capita, carbon footprint, and wise waste management.
