BREAKING BIAS TO BUILD A MORE GENDER EQUALITY IN FACING THE ISSUE OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN INDONESIA - PART V

The Directorate General of Climate Change Control explained that climate change is a significant change in climate, air temperature and rainfall ranging from decades to millions of years. Climate change occurs due to increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide gas and other gases in the atmosphere that cause the greenhouse gas effect.

According to the United Nations, climate change refers to long-term changes in temperature and weather patterns. This shift may be natural, such as through variations in the solar cycle. However, since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, mainly due to the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas.

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the definition of climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns caused by increasing levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution, due to the use of fossil fuels.

Amnesty International explained that climate change does not only involve rising temperatures, but also extreme weather events, rising sea levels, shifting populations and wildlife habitats and various other impacts.

Seen naturally, it turns out that climate change has had a major impact on human life on this earth. Then, what are the factors that are the impact of climate change on earth, including the depletion of agricultural land area, degradation of forest quality and quantity and agricultural productivity, increasing greenhouse gas effects due to deforestation, decreasing water quality and quantity to species extinction and changes ecosystem habitats.

Indonesia's commitment and contribution was again demonstrated by ratifying the Pari Agreement in New York on April 22, 2016, Indonesia signed the Paris Agreement in New York. As a ratifying country, Indonesia is committed to making efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to take active steps to prevent climate change. The Paris Agreement also positions forests as the key to reducing greenhouse gases. This is due to the ability of forests to absorb greenhouse gases. This position is implied from the provisions of Article 5 of the Paris Agreement which encourages states parties to implement and support an agreement-based framework for activities related to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and conservation and forest management based on sustainability principles.

The Indonesian government has also issued Law No. 16 of 2016 concerning the Ratification of the Paris Agreement. The Government of Indonesia with 9 (nine) priority actions for national development as outlined through Nawa Cita is a national commitment towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient development direction, with climate change adaptation and mitigation as an integrated and cross-sectoral priority in the National Development agenda. The commitments contained in the Nawa Cita became the basis for the preparation of Indonesia's First Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document which was submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in November 2016. Indonesia's First NDC outlines Indonesia's transition to a low future emissions and climate resilience.

Indonesia as part of the largest Asian country in the southeast has a role in maintaining its natural resources and other efforts to overcome the effects of the current crisis, coupled with the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.   An energy crisis is a shortage (or price increase) in the supply of energy resources to the economy. These crises usually point to a shortage of petroleum, electricity, or other natural resources. This crisis has had repercussions on the economy, with many recessions and others. The conditions currently experienced by Indonesia related to the energy crisis are starting to be felt, this of course has a negative and positive impact on Indonesia.   The negative impact is to encourage an increase in commodity prices including the price of fuel oil (BBM), LPG, and also the basic electricity tariff (TDL).The Russia-Ukrainian war became the source of the world's ene...
